Why are we becoming less creative?

Both intelligence and creativity have been decreasing significantly, year on year, since the early 1980s.
“For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail – its the opposite – We aim too low and succeed.”
Sir Ken Robinson
Why are so many organisations struggling to innovate?

“It’s impossible to connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect the dots when looking backwards.”
Steve Jobs

What if ?
We can no longer connect the dots?
What if ?
we are doing it all wrong?
What if ?
there’s a better way?
“It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it could become”.
Dr Suess
Creativity and innovation
are key drivers to business growth and are essential for individual and organisational success.
They also just happen to be two areas of business that I am quietly obsessed with.
But have we got the wrong end of the stick when it comes to becoming more creative and innovative?
Does our modern business approach enhance or inhibit creativity and innovation?

I think it’s time to challenge our traditional way of thinking about creativity and innovation.
I want to provoke discussion and develop a platform for debate.
Through exploration, research and discussion, I hope together, we can provide inspiration and new thinking, giving individuals and business leaders a more rounded view of how to maximise creativity and innovation in their lives.
The real problem here is that creativity and innovation need very different mindsets and environments to thrive, when compared with day to day business and productivity.
We have been trying to deliver increased creativity and innovation using the same basic approach.
Our insistence that one size fits all just doesn’t work.

We need a rethink

So where do we go from here?

Let’s try to connect the dots together.
Together we can make things happen.
